Stuffed or Stuffed- Free Amigurumi Crochet Patterns

free amigurumi crochet patterns

What an amazing collection of over FIFTY free amigurumi crochet patterns! Some of you may wonder what amigurumi means and where it came from.  I know I did! It’s kind of obvious that it must mean stuffed crochet items but where in the world did that name, amigurumi, come from?

Wikipedia cleared up my confusion with this definition:

Amigurumi (編みぐるみ, lit. crocheted or knitted stuffed toy) is the Japanese art of knitting or crocheting small stuffed animals and anthropomorphic creatures. The word is derived from a combination of the Japanese words ami, meaning crocheted or knitted, and nuigurumi, meaning stuffed doll.  Amigurumi are typically animals, but can include artistic renderings or inanimate objects endowed with anthropomorphic features,as is typical in Japanese culture.

Apparently these stuffed crochet items are usually intended only as aesthetic pieces and carry no real purpose, other than looking totally awesome! Of course, I find them to be the best way to crochet toys for kids! Amigurumi items are also amazing for gifts like birthdays, anniversaries, and with Easter coming soon, I have a feeling there will be a lot of bunny rabbit amigurumi patterns followed.

Enjoy this amazing collection of free amigurumi crochet patterns!

My name is Corina Gray. I picked up a crochet hook Jan of 2012 and haven’t stopped hooking since.
My daughter, Ella, is my inspiration. Christmas of 2011 I was searching for mittens that would actually stay on her tiny hands. With no luck, I asked my husband, Chad, to make sure Santa brought me a crochet hook and some cheap yarn. He laughed as if I would never figure it out. Bahahah! Crochet is only as difficult as you make it. I am so excited to see what my crochet future will bring.

  3. Crocheting is really a great hobby that is fun and easy to learn. But I never imagined these possibilities. I have decided to try “Stuffed Doll Pattern”. I do this on weekends, so it might take some time to complete the project. But I’ll definitely share the pics whenever I complete my first project.
And YES! Thanks for sharing these crochet patterns! 🙂
